Blue Ridge is happy to announce that we have teamed up with John Hunt and his staff at Pro Motion Physical Therapy to take care of all of our athletes needs.

John Hunt, DPT, LAT, ATC, CSCS

Director of Lifestyle and Sports Performance, PRO Motion

John is a native of Newport, VA where he played football, basketball and baseball through high school and baseball in college. His athletic career was shortened due to injuries/surgeries and other health conditions. Following graduation from Ferrum College in 1994 he entered the business world where he was Vice President of Hunt Enterprises for 7 years. His continued desire to be around athletics and help athletes achieve goals that he was unable to led him back to graduate school.  He graduated from Shenandoah University in 2004 and was the first graduate of the dual degree program, earning a Master’s of Science in Athletic Training and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. He began his PT clinical career in general orthopedics before focusing on athletic injuries and physically active adults. In the afternoons/evenings he was the athletic trainer Giles High School.   In 2007 he returned to Shenandoah University as a full time faculty member within the Division of Athletic Training, and has been at SU since that time.   He’s served as the Clinical Education Coordinator since 2009. His research interest has been Reducing Injury Risk in Baseball and he has ongoing studies in collegiate and professional baseball.  During this time he has also remained active in sports performance for young athletes.   He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, with over 10 years of experience working with youth to college athletes.  He has worked across the spectrum of sports medicine, including sports performance/injury prevention as a CSCS, taking care of acute injuries as an Athletic Trainer and rehabilitation of such injuries as an Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist.  His passion is working on the sports performance/injury prevention end of spectrum to reduce injury risk in area athletes in order for them to perform at their highest level.


Nate Sowers

Exercise Physiologist B.S., NFPT-CPT

 Nate hails from Martinsburg, WV where he attended Martinsburg High School, receiving 1st team All-State honors in football, basketball, and track for three years.  He was awarded the Kennedy Award his senior year, given to the best football player in the state of West Virginia. 

Nate accepted a full athletic scholarship to play football at West Virginia University.  He was a starting strong safety his junior and senior seasons.  He was also a 2-time recipient of the Iron Mountaineer Award given to the best conditioned athlete on the WVU football team.  Nate earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from WVU’s School of Medicine.  

Nate's past career experience includes Director of Athletic Development at the HIT Center, an advanced training facility in Morgantown, WV.  During his time there, he trained thousands of youth, high school, collegiate and professional athletes of all sports. Additionally, he served as Area Director for True Athlete Performance based out of Chantilly, VA. Most recently, he headed the Athletic Performance Program at Body Renew, also serving as the Training Director there.
